Air Travel

The Washington, DC area is served by three major airports—Reagan Washington National, Dulles International, and Baltimore-Washington International.

Ground Transportation

By Taxi From Local Airports to NIH (Bethesda):

Via Metrorail to NIH:
NIH is located at the Medical Center stop on the Red Line. Metrorail service is available from Reagan Washington National Airport and from Union Station (railway).

  • From National Airport, board a Yellow Line train (marked Mt. Vernon Square), and transfer to a Red Line train (marked Shady Grove) at the Gallery Place-Chinatown station. Exit the train at the Medical Center Metro stop.
  • From Union Station, board a Red Line train marked Shady Grove or Grosvenor to the Medical Center Station.

The station's escalators come out on the NIH campus.
